About 60 kids in Apple Valley got some extra help with their basketball skills Friday, from someone with a lot of hoops knowledge.
Minnesota Lynx basketball player and 2012 Olympian Maya Moore stopped by the Apple Valley Community Center on Friday to answer questions from 8- to 13-year-olds and help out at the free youth basketball clinic sponsored by MidCountry Bank.
"It's great to give back to the community," said Robin Roberts, MidCountry's senior vice president and director of marketing and sales administration.
The Apple Valley clinic is a new event location this year, Roberts said; a Minnetonka clinic was added last year, and the first started in Hutchinson.
Roberts said this is the only clinic Moore will attend, possibly in the entire U.S. this year. At the other clinics, fellow Lynx and Olympians Lindsay Whalen and Seimone Augustus made appearances.
"They are world-class athletes," Roberts said. It's "totally amazing" to have them connecting with local kids at events like these, he said.
