About this column:

Apple Valley's Adoptable Animal each Friday will highlight one animal up for adoption through the nonprofit organization Last Hope, Inc., which holds adoption events from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays at area pet stores. Last Hope volunteers take abandoned or unwanted animals into their homes and care for them until they're adopted.
What a gentlemen Mister is! The 3-year-old Labrador retriever mix weighs about 40 pounds and is, as someone once said about Mary Poppins, practically perfect in every way. Mister is friendly and calm, but craves attention and can also be playful. Mister is neutered, up to date with routine shots and house trained. Adoption fee is $250, cash only, no checks. You can see Mister from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Apple Valley Petco, or learn more about him by calling foster Sue at 612-242-9909. See all dogs and cats available for adoption from Last Hope pet rescue on the Last Hope website.
You wouldn't be able to tell by her picture, but Sargie is—yes—a bug!  This 3-year-old dog is a Boston Terrier mixed with a pug, and she's absolutely perfect. One of the main thing you'll notice about Sargie is that she loves to sleep with people. Take her home and she'll become a wonderful part of your family. Sargie is spayed and current with shots. Adoption fee is $350. Call Kathy at 952-649-0339 for more information about, or to meet, Sargie. Last Hope also has many other dogs and cats looking for homes. See some of them in person at Last Hope's adoption day, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at…

But don't think she's slowed down because of her age. This purebred Jack Russell terrier is a spitfire with tons of energy, and her antics will make you love her. She hides rawhides in seat cushions, will play by herself with a ball and make you to laugh. She also works for food, so you can teach her a lot. She loves to play with dogs her size, and even big dogs, since they won't be able to keep up with her. A fenced in yard …
Gabby Six Toes is a sleek, young cat who is polydactyl, meaning she has extra toes on her front feet. She was left behind when her family moved, and was pregnant and living under a porch when someone brought her to Last Hope. She has raised six babies who have all been adopted, and now it's her turn. She's well behaved, calm, friendly and enjoys people. It's unknown how she gets along with other cats, but she was sweet and gentle with her kittens. Contact Kathleen at 651-452-2393 or at ksprank99@gmail.com to meet Gabby Six Toes. Adoption fee is $140, cash only. Visit Last Hope's website to …
Jonah is a 3-year-old Beagle mix who was a stray. He weighs 20 pounds, and has a fun personality and a cute howl. He loves attention and kisses! He had a bad leg, but it's all fixed up now and this nice little guy is ready to romp in a fenced in yard. Jonah is great with kids and other dogs. He's neutered, house trained and up to date with routine shots. Adoption fee is $275, cash only. See him at Last Hope's adoption day at the Eagan Petsmart from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, or call Dave or Deb at 651-330-4372.  See all rescues from Last Hope on the Last Hope website.
Anna is 1-year-old Corgi/Beagle mix who was rescued from a ditch, but now loves people and is a real sweetheart. She can be shy at first, but then will play and play. She weighs 23 pounds, and is great with kids 8 and up, as well as dogs and cats. She does need someone home a lot, though; a home where she would be alone for a maximum four hours a day would be ideal, to prevent separation anxiety.  Anna is spayed and up to date with routine shots. Adoption fee is $200, cash only. Call Dave or Deb at 651-330-4372 to meet Anna, or see her from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Burnsville Petco, …
Duke is a 3-year-old hound and Shar Pei mix who, though he is a big, stocky dog, is all love. He loves to sniff in a backyard (a fence is a good idea) and enjoys daily walks. He loves to lie on the couch with people, and prefers sleeping in your bed. Duke is also quite the "counter surfer," so you'll have to watch what's in his reach—he especially has a fondness for pork chops and bread loaves. He's housebroken, neutered and up to date on all shots. He's good with adults, kids 10 and up and dogs, but not cats. Adoption fee is $175, cash only. See Duke or learn more about him by calling Steve …
Charlie is 6-year-old Jack Russell terrier/Shetland sheepdog/Sheltie mix, a sweetheart who makes a great companion. He belonged to a senior citizen who could no longer take care of him. He doesn't like fast movement, and would shine in a quiet home with just one human. But if you cannot walk much, don't worry, he does love playing ball and will bring it back to your chair. However, he needs a little monitoring when it comes to food. He's overweight at about 30 pounds and should only eat dog food; his ideal weight is 20 pounds. Charlie is housebroken, and is neutered and current with shots. …
Bayley is a 9-month-old miniature pinscher/chihuahua mix who only weighs 9 pounds. She's ready to be held, and will give you kisses. She's doing well learning housebreaking and she's very fun. Bayley is good with kids 10 and up, since she's so small; she's also great with other dogs. Adoption fee is $275 (cash only). For more information, call Jen at 651-283-7780, or see Bayley at the Apple Valley Petco from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, with many more dogs and cats rescued by Last Hope. Last Hope is an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue that is always looking for more cat or dog fosters. See …
Gracie and her sisters are 12-week-old shepherd/black lab mixes, and they're ready to learn! They'll each be about 70 to 80 pounds when full grown. A fenced-in yard with a little room would be helpful to let your puppy run and grow properly. The puppies would be best with kids 5 and older who can handle teeth and nails scratching as the puppies mature. Gracie is a cuddler and a sweetheart; she'll always be with you and actually likes being with people more than dogs.  The adoption fee for each puppy is $225; also ask about the spay/neuter program at Last Hope's veterinarian, available for all…
Babbette is a 5-month-old border collie mix with lots of energy and agility—fun for training! She's also sweet and loving, and always wants to be with people. She's about 28 pounds now, and should be about 45 pounds when full grown. She might already be too smart for the average dog owner! But she'll stick right by your side, and is also good with other dogs and cats. Babbette would be great for kids (ages 5 and older), but she does have a tendency to jump. She also loves to play ball. Babbette is spayed and current with shots. The adoption fee is $250, cash only. Call Kim 507-351-6647 for …
Rafe is a 1-year old chihuahua who doesn't know he is one—he is labrador in a chihuahua's body! Despite that, he is a chihuahua, and he only weighs five pounds. He's also great with kids who have had tiny dogs before. He's could stay in bed all night with you, and is a rarity in that a cat will sleep curled up with him. Rafe could, however, use a belly band during the day. Adoption fee is $300. Call Stacey at 651-414-9939 for more information, or see him and many other Last Hope rescues at the Apple Valley Petco from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
Allie is a bassador (bassett hound/labrador mix) who is about 3.5 years old and weighs 55 pounds. She has been a mother many times, and has a wonderful personality for all she has gone through—great with dogs, cats and kids, and perfectly housebroken! Allie loves to sniff in the backyard, and has a low bark so your neighbors will probably think you just got a 150-pound rottweiler! Allie also has been treated for heartworm disease. Adoption fee is $200. Call Sue at 612-242-9909 to meet her or for more information. See Allie and many other Last Hope dogs and cats from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. …
Have you heard of a bassador? Well, Coalie is a wienerdor—part dachshund, part black labrador. He looks like a lab with very short legs. He is 1.5 years old and weighs 25 pounds, and loves to play ball safely in a fenced-in yard. Coalie is very friendly and great with kids! Coalie is neutered, current with shots and house trained. Adoption fee is $275. See Coalie and all Last Hope's dogs and cats on the Last Hope website. Last Hope will not be holding a Dec. 24 adoption day, so for information about Coalie or to see him, call Jane and leave a message at 651-247-5991.
Yes, Rowdy is named for his active nature—but only when he's playing! Otherwise, he's a cuddler, too. The 1.5-year-old purebred is small for a male of his breed, at only 40 lbs. He is great with other dogs and knows some basic commands.  He was a stray, so a fenced-in yard would be good for him. Rowdy is neutered and current with shots. Adopted fee is $250. See Rowdy and other Last Hope rescues at the organization's adoption day at the Burnsville Petco from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, or on the Last Hope website. You can also call foster dad Jeff at 651-230-8243 for more information.
Pepper was in a kill shelter and is now safe with Last Hope. This 1-year-old, 40-pound black lab/heeler mix is very smart. He picked up housebreaking and his name, and listens well. Pepper loves to play chase and wrestle with other dogs and cats—dogs like it but cats usually don't. He also gives lots of kisses and enjoys belly rubs from anyone! For more information or to see Pepper, call Angela at 651-451-7603, or see him at our adoption day this weekend at the Burnsville Petco from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Check out the Last Hope website for more information about Pepper and to see all the other …
Jesse might be a lab mixed with Doberman or Collie, with the long nose he has. But one thing's for sure: He's a quiet puppy who loves to cuddle, and he wants a new, permanent home. He and his older brother and sister were found in a ditch, and passersby thought he was a black garbage bag instead of a dog. Jesse is neutered and current with shots. Adoption fee is $300. For more information, call Jason or Joy at 952-465-4326. You can check out all Last Hope's dogs and cats on the Last Hope website. You can also see many of their animals at weekly adoption days, held 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays …
Crissi is a 9-year-old purebred white Schnauzer who weighs 10 pounds. She was a mother many times before coming to Last Hope, and now she's ready to for a permanent, quiet home. She is doing well on housebreaking and learning many things, but is a bit shy. She loves to sleep in her kennel, but also to get away when the door is open! She'll need grooming every eight weeks to keep her skin and ears healthy. Crissi is great with other dogs and usually fine with kids, but they scare her if they move too fast. If you would truly like a rescue, she's it! Learn more about Crissi by calling Steve at …
Tanner is a perfect, quiet 5-year-old poodle who would love a quiet family to live with. He's good with calm, older dogs, too. He's 25 pounds and is housebroken; he will never have an accident, and never sheds. The grooming cost is about $45 every eight weeks to get him handsome again! Tanner is current with shots and vet-checked. See him and many other dogs and cats looking for homes at Last Hope's adoption day, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Saturday at the Apple Valley Petco. You can see all Last Hope's dogs and cats on the Last Hope website.
