Discovering Favorite Fall Traditions

Whether it's going to the apple orchard, bobbing for apples or craft-show shopping, autumn offers a plethora of options to make new memories with family and friends.

Everyone has their favorite time of year - and their favorite pastime that accompanies that time of year... whether it's going Up North during the sweltery summer months or decorating for Christmas during winter.

I don't know about you, but for me, fall is my favorite time of year. , it was the season I missed most. I love taking a drive Up North to see the leaves change colors, scratching my head to figure out what I'm going to be for Halloween (no, you're never too old), and decorating for Halloween (I like my house to resemble a haunted house). However, my most favorite memory that I like to remake each year is going to various craft shows with my mom.

Craft fair shopping has been a tradition my mom and I took on when I was quite young, and I've grown to love and adore it. When they take place in fall, it's usually in October where I can still manage to snag some unique Halloween decorations, while thinking ahead to Christmas and possible gifts for friends and family.

Two of my mom and my favorite craft shows are at Centennial Lakes and Canterbury Park. However, after publishing a recent article on , I have deemed it necessary to try out their location as well. I do realize it's not as much a craft shop as it is unique finds and refurbished antiques, but nonetheless, I'm excited!

I've noticed this time of year offers so many activities for family and friends to do together. It's a great bonding time. Several of my friends have been visiting apple orchards lately, and I remember going to Emma Krumbee's in Belle Plain a few times with my parents and sister when I was in elementary. Besides apple orchards, there's the picking of the pumpkin, gutting the pumpkin, eating pumpkin seeds, dressing your pets, children and yourselves in costumes, Halloween parties, haunted houses, hayrides, cider, leaves changing colors, Pumpkin Spice Lattes, warm outside temperatures, fall fashion, fall coats and jackets, school beginning again, Thanksgiving ... it's just a wonderful time to make new memories (and celebrate the old ones)!
