Five Things You Need To Know Today In Rosemount: Feb. 7

An upcoming school holiday, the Lions Club and a couple of meetings top today's "must-know" list.

Welcome to our daily round-up of what you need to know about Rosemount for Monday, Feb 7:

1) meets the first and third Mondays at Celt's Pub in Rosemount. They'll be meeting tonight at 7:00 pm.

2) If you're the parent of a child attending District 196, this will be a long week for you. It's parent-teacher conference time this week, and the kids will be out of school. Children attending half-day Kindergarten will be out beginning Weds. All K-8 students will be out Thursday and Friday. All students (including high school) will be out Friday.

3) The District 196 Curriculum and Instruction Advisory Council (CIAC) will meet tonight, 5-6:30 p.m., at the District Office, 3455 153rd St. W., Rosemount. The public is welcome to attend.

The CIAC advises the District 196 School Board on matters related to curriculum, instruction, student assessment and program evaluation. It is made up of 16 parents/community representatives, eight employees, five high school students and District Office staff members.

Topics to be discussed include the district's budget-adjustment process for 2011-12, formation of the superintendent's academy, an update on the middle school program review, a curriculum review update and information on the Pyramid Response-to-Intervention model.

4) has its monthly meeting at 5:50 pm tonight at City Hall. The commission is an advisory board to the City Council that helps review infrastructure development; reviews operating budgets for water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer; and reviews a consultant's study on rates every five years.  The Commission also handles residents' concerns on utility matters.
