Five Things You Should Know Today: August 15

Sometimes boring weather is good. Better than unusual weather, anyway. And yes, today will be boring, weatherwise.

  1. We can expect highs today between 80 and 85, mostly sunny skies and light south winds, the National Weather Service says. Partly cloudy tonight, lows around 65 and more light southerly winds. Yes, kind of boring, but we can deal.
  2. Several events are going on today at Rosemount High School. School pictures will be taken at the high school student center from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Recommended times are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for juniors, 1 to 3 p.m. for sophomores and 3 to 5 p.m. for freshmen. Then it's for new ninth-graders from 6 to 8 p.m. in the RHS gym.
  3. The District 196 School Board meets tonight at 6 p.m. at Dakota Ridge School in Apple Valley.  On the agenda: an annual report from the budget advisory council, discussion of an energy efficiency review and plan, a legislative wrap-up and discussing an attendance area change for the Walden Heights neighborhood in Eagan.
  4. Tonight is at the Great Clips IMAX Theater at the Minnesota Zoo in Apple Valley. Buy an adult ticket for “Wild Safari 3D” and get a child’s ticket free. The movie begins at 6:30 p.m.; come early for free pizza and drinks courtesy of Sam’s Club, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
  5. Today is National Relaxation Day, and also National Failures Day. Lie in a hammock somewhere and contemplate where you went wrong. Or didn’t.
