There's an 80 percent chance of snow overnight, and the forecasters say we can expect accumulations of about an inch—nothing like the dump we saw last weekend, but still enough to make for a slippery Thursday morning commute.

Later Thursday, the thermometer is expected to drop dramatically, reaching 6 below zero on Friday night. But it won't last long this time; we can look forward to partly cloudy skies and above-freezing temperatures by Sunday.

According to meteorologist Paul Douglas's blog, we're now nearing an end to meteorological winter"—typically, the coldest 90 days come from roughly Dec. 1 to March 1.

If it seems like we've had a lot snow during that period, you're right, at least compared to the winter of 2011-12. Since December, the Twin Cities region has seen 29.4 inches of snow—twice the frozen precipitation we'd picked up last winter at this time.
