Library to Dedicate Sculpture

The in Rosemount will officially unveil its new sculpture May 10.

“Triskele,” which was created by artist Foster Willey Jr., was erected outside the library last fall. Willey will be at the unveiling and dedication ceremony and will discuss the design, which was inspired by Irish art.

The program also will include craft activities for children and a presentation on Rosemount’s Irish heritage by historian Maureen Geraghty Bouchard.

Children can participate in a “Color the Triskele” event by picking up coloring sheets at the Rosemount Community Center or the library and submitting them by May 6. The finished products will be on display at the Steeple Center on the night of the dedication ceremony.

The program will run from 6:30 to 8 p.m., beginning with a dedication ceremony outside the library and continuing at the Steeple Center down the street.

The $60,000 sculpture, commissioned by the city, is 11½ feet tall and features three cast-bronze spirals atop a tapered black stone base.

City Offers Community Garden Plots

The city of Rosemount is offering a limited number of garden plots on city-owned property to Rosemount residents.

The 20-by-30-foot plots on the northeast corner of Akron Avenue and Bonaire Path are available for $35 each.

To rent one of the plots for the season, contact park supervisor Tom Schuster by May 6 via e-mail or by calling (651) 322-6005.

Planning Commission to Discuss Baseball Complex

The Rosemount Planning Commission will receive new information on a planned outdoor baseball complex at Dakota County Technical College during its Tuesday meeting.

City staff members are scheduled to update commission members on building plans and information from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency on environmental conditions at the site.

The planning commission will also elect a new chair and vice chair.
