Apple Valley Dance Team Backs Owl City Musician in Solo Music Video

The Apple Valley High School AVaires danced in the music video for the song "Gold Mine," a single by Breanne Duren, who has done background vocals and keyboards for the music act Owl City and is an AVaires alumna.

The dance team recently was spotlighted on the national stage, according to a post by Chris Riemenschneider on the Star Tribune's Artcetera blog last week.

Breanne Duren, 23, an Apple Valley High School graduate who lent background vocals and keyboard skills to several songs by Owl City (of "Fireflies" fame), recently debuted her own EP, "Sparks," which includes the song "Gold Mine." Duren, who danced on the high school's AVaires dance team during her time there, chose the team as her backup dancers for the "Gold Mine" video, the Artcetera post said.

The video was posted on teenvogue.com in late April.

Dance team coach Katie Amundson told Apple Valley Patch that the team met with Duren and another former AVaires captain, Kate Pattison, to learn choreography for the video. They taped at the during their fourth day of meeting, she said, which was only shortly before the video was posted online.

Amundson also coached Duren on the team during high school, she said, before she was in a national spotlight.

"She was a very nice girl," Amundson said. "Very respectful, quiet and polite."
