It's time for Apple Valley's annual July 4th bash, Freedom Days.
This year's festivities kicked off on Friday, with a youth-oriented "color dance," featuring colored powder that participants could douse themselves—or each other—in and a car and motorcycle show.
The entire week is filled with events, from the J & K Amusements Carnival every night to kids' fishing derbies and parades, and a tennis tournament.
The highlight of the week, however, comes on Thursday, July 4. The day kicks off at 8 a.m. with 2- and 5-mile road races for all ages. At 1 p.m., a parade will wind its way (PDF) from Apple Valley Square to the Apple Valley High School, followed by a family party at Johnny Cake Ridge Park at 5 p.m., and culminating in fireworks at 10 p.m.
A full schedule of events is available on the Freedom Days website.
