Five Things You Should Know Today: August 25

The weather couldn't get much more perfect for the Minnesota State Fair kickoff.

  1. The National Weather Service is calling for sunny skies today, with a high near 80, and light winds. And if you’re the kind who likes to stay at the fair until the midway lights come on, it’ll be a perfect evening, too: mostly clear, with a low around 60 and calm winds.
  2. Yes, the Minnesota State Fair kicks off today. Word is that you’re not a true Minnesotan unless you go to the fair at least once every year. And where do you fall on the Pronto Pup vs. corn dog question? Ponder all these weighty issues today through Labor Day at the fair, which is open from 6 a.m. to midnight daily (except for Labor Day, when the gates close at 10 p.m. and summer is officially over.) Find the full schedule -- along with everything you’ve ever wanted to know about the third-largest state fair in the country -- here
  3. kicks off today at RHS. Games begin at 3:15 p.m.; find the full schedule here.
  4. Prefer to hit the state fair later? If you’re looking for an outdoor activity this evening, tickets are still available for in concert at the Minnesota Zoo amphitheater in Apple Valley. The amphitheater opens at 7 p.m., with the show at 7:30 p.m. Find tickets through Ticketmaster
  5. Today, according to reliable sources, is National Kiss-and-Make-Up Day. Do it over a bunch of cheese curds, or a bag of mini-doughnuts.
