This kind of monotony we can deal with: Today's forecast will be a threepeat.
- Skies will be mostly sunny today for the third day in a row, with a high near 85 and calm winds, the National Weather Service predicts. Tonight will be partly cloudy with a low around 67. Repetition never looked so good.
- It’ll be a lovely day to check out , appearances by Rosemount’s puppet wagon at 9:30 a.m. in Camfield Park; 10:15 a.m. in Connemara Park; 11 a.m. in Bloomfield Park; and 11:45 a.m. in Jaycee Park. (Bring along a picnic lunch for those last two performances.) Admission is free.
- If you’re looking for more outdoor entertainment, head over to Apple Valley from 6 to 9 p.m. for a concert by in Kelley Park, located at Founders Lane and 153rd Street West. The concert is free, and food and drinks – including adult beverages – will be available.
- And if you’d like to plan ahead: Registrations are being accepted for the for students entering grades 5 through 10 at the Apple Valley Aquatic Center, 14421 Johnny Cake Ridge Road. The party will run from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 20, and students from all districts and communities are welcome. Pre-registrations are $7 and will be taken through 10 p.m. Aug. 18. - Two interesting events took place on this day in Minnesota: In 1945, actress Loni Anderson of “WKRP in Cincinnati” was born in St. Paul, and in 1904, a Detroit Lakes woman was hit by lightning. She survived, even though her hairpins and the steel in her corset melted. The lesson: Don’t go out in a thunderstorm wearing hairpins or a corset. (There's probably not a lesson inherent in Loni Anderson's birth, but one never knows.)
