Five Things You Should Know Today: July 29

Today's weather will be almost indistinguishable from yesterday's, except for one thing that's much better: It's Friday and not Thursday.

  1. Early risers will encounter some patchy fog in Rosemount before 7 a.m., according to the National Weather Service, but the rest of the day will be sunny, with a high near 84 and light northwest winds. More patchy fog is expected late tonight, with a low around 65.
  2. Today’s Leprechaun Day events: Puppets in the Park from 9:30 a.m. to noon in Camfield, Connemara, Bloomfield and Jaycee parks; the Midsummer Faire from 5 to 11 p.m. in Central Park; a steak fry under the stars from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion, followed by Rockin’ at the Legion with music by the Tombstone Trio from 7 to 11 p.m.; and PopROCKS from 7 to 10 p.m. in Central Park. 3. Looking for something to do indoors? Head north and watch Eagan High School’s production of at 7:30 p.m. The last two performances are today and tomorrow. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for seniors and children.
  4. The Rosemount City Council is looking for teens to serve on the city’s Youth Commission. The commission is made up of seven seats, with one alternate, and its purpose is to give young people leadership opportunities and allow them to participate in government. Teens ages 14 through 18 are eligible to serve one-year terms. The application deadline is Aug. 12. Click here for the application form.
  5. On this day in 1974, Minnesotan Jeannette Piccard – who once piloted hydrogen balloons into the stratosphere – became one of the first women to be ordained an Episcopal priest.
