  1. There’s a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. today, according to the National Weather Service, with a high near 83 and sunny skies – until the rain moves in. The chance of precipitation increases to 30 percent tonight. 
  2. Bring the kids to Central Park at 10 a.m. this morning for Wendy’s Wiggle, Jiggle and Jam, an that inspires children to sing and dance along. The event is part of Rosemount’s 2011 Music in the Park series, and admission is free.   
  3. On this day in 1849, the Minnesota Territory was officially divided into seven “council districts.” Territorial Gov. Alexander Ramsey also declared that elections would be held on Aug. 1.
  4. Famous people born today: Ringo Starr turns 71, figure skater Michelle Kwan turns 31, and fashion designer Pierre Cardin turns 89. Wouldn’t you like to be there if those three decided to have dinner together?
  5. And today is National Strawberry Sundae Day. Really. Not that you needed an excuse, but now you’ve got one.
