Five Things You Should Know Today: September 7

Let's enjoy this while we can: Today will be almost a carbon copy of yesterday, weatherwise.

  1. The National Weather Service is predicting a high today of 76, with sunny skies and calm winds. It will be mostly clear tonight, with a low around 52 and – you guessed it – calm winds.
  2. Did you see the Minnesota House of Representatives state fair poll results? According to the poll, it appears that Minnesotans don’t want to change the state Constitution to define marriage as “only a union of one man and one woman.” A record 12,549 people participated in this year’s poll – way up from the 9,926 who voted last year. Check out all the poll results .
  3. The Burnsville Fire Muster kicks off today with a block party from 5 to 10 p.m. at the Best Western Premier Nicollet Inn, 14201 Nicollet Ave. Music will be provided by the Timothy Howe Trio, Down Lo and Mark Mraz, and there will be a beer garden, a food tent and a wine tasting. 4. Check out the photo exhibit at the Dakota County Galaxie Library in Apple Valley. The exhibit features large-scale photos of first- and second-generation immigrant youths by award-winning photographer and filmmaker Jila Nikpay. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
  5. Today is national Neither Rain nor Snow Day. I think we’ve established that it’s going to neither rain nor snow; smile at your mail carrier today.
