Forecasters: Winter Storm Headed for Twin Cities Starting Tuesday

Apple Valley and the rest of the Twin Cities metro could see between 6 and 12 inches of snow, as well as freezing rain, from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday.

The Twin Cities area could receive from 6-12 inches of snow mixed with rain on Tuesday night and Wednesday, which would be the first significant winter storm to hit central Minnesota this season.

As of Monday morning, the National Weather Service had issued a winter storm watch for Apple Valley for Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday.

A low pressure system that originated in the Rocky Mountains should settle in over much of Minnesota during Tuesday afternoon, and could drop 1-2 inches of snow an hour on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, according to the NWS. The south metro and south central Minnesota could also see freezing rain.
