Stream Global Services Opts for Eagan Over Apple Valley for HQ, Call Center Move

The global call center company, which employs as many as 30,000 people worldwide, plans to open a call center and headquarters at 3285 Northwoods Cir. in Eagan.

After an unsuccessful search for a new location in Apple Valley, Stream Global Services—a global call center company—has its eyes on a property in Eagan, according to Eagan City Administrator Tom Hedges.

On Friday, Hedges confirmed that the call-center company, which employs as many as 30,000 workers worldwide, has signed a lease for 3285 Northwoods Cir., in an office complex northeast of the Eagan Promenade. The company, currently based in Massachusetts, plans to relocate its headquarters and open a call center in Eagan.

The move could bring as many as 50 headquarters jobs and 400 call center positions to Eagan, according to a memo signed by Stream Global Services Vice President Vincent Mottola.

Eagan city officials first met with Stream representatives in 2011, Hedges said, but the company's search for a suitable location in Dakota County eventually took them to Apple Valley—where Stream's CEO, Kathy Marinello, lives.

In March, . Several months later, however, the Star Tribune reported that Stream was unable to find a suitably large space in Apple Valley, and was again looking at locations outside the city.

The news that the company signed a lease for an Eagan is "disappointing", the Apple Valley Chamber of Commerce wrote in an email newsletter to members. Still, the Chamber found some silver lining in the announcement.

"We are pleased that the company ultimately chose to relocate from Massachusetts to Minnesota and to Dakota County," the newsletter reads. "Stream indicates they are continuing to grow, and may be interested in additional space in the future somewhere along the Cedar BRT corridor."

Renovations on the building at 3285 Northwoods Cir. in Eagan are expected to commence by Sept. 1. The company could invest as much as $2 million in building renovations, machinery and equipment, according to Mottola's memo.

But that cost estimate could double if the company decides to develop a second call center in Eagan, Mottola wrote.

A proposed second call center facility in Eagan could provide an additional 300-400 call center positions, but a decision on a second building wouldn't be made until 60-90 days after the opening of the first facility, according to the memo.
