Rep. Tara Mack Casts Vote to Move Consitutional Discrimination Forward

What I object to strongly is putting the marriage amendment into the Minnesota Constitution. Not only is this a blight on this document but it chains future generations to the opinion of this one.

I think it is worth noting that our local state House representative, Tara Mack, was on the committee that voted 13-12 to send the "marriage" amendment to the House floor for a vote (probably tomorrow, May 19, as I write this).

Rep. Mack cast a deciding vote. If she had voted no, this issue would not be going to the 2012 ballot and into the divisive waters that would ensue.

Mack must believe that discriminatory actions need to be taken here, even though Minnesota statutes already legally prohibit same-sex marriage.

Mack seems to be afraid of the courts. She seems to be afraid of future legislatures and afraid of the change in public opinion... which is becoming inevitable. She seems to have a personal or religious objection to people of the same gender making a life long commitment. Is that really fair? Is that really right?

I do not begrudge Rep. Mack's opinion. We can agree to disagree about this issue. But what I object to strongly is putting this into the Minnesota Constitution. Not only is this a blight on this document but it chains future generations to the opinion of this one.

I have always believed that this state was better than that. And in 2012, I hope the ballot box will prove this.
