5 Things to Know: Holiday Tree Lighting, Entries Wanted for Photo Exhibit

Apple Valley High School student broadcasters also raked in another award this past weekend.

1. The public is invited to the lighting of Apple Valley's holiday tree, scheduled for 7:15 p.m. Tuesday at the . Last year's ceremony included a student choral number and refreshments. (The city council meeting starts at 8 p.m.)

2. Dakota County is looking for resident photographers, ages 8 and older, to submit photos for its Dakota County Outdoors exhibit. 

Photos will be displayed for six months beginning in February at Dakota County's service centers, including the in Apple Valley. The Dakota County Board of Commissioners ultimately will choose which photos will be exhibited.

Submissions are due to the county by Jan. 2. Read more information on the Dakota County website.

3. Most establishments will be closed Thursday for Thanksgiving, but note that the also will be closed on Friday. We'll let you know yet this week a more detailed list of what's open and closed on Thursday and Friday.

4. 's EaglEye broadcast students over the weekend received a National Scholastic Press Association Pacemaker award for broadcast news program. Judging for these national high school awards is based on many criteria, including writing and editing of the script and broadcast, content, technical aspects and interviewing ability.

5. senior Sara Detlefsen signed a National Letter of Intent to play women’s golf at Florida Gulf Coast University in the fall.

She in signing her letter, and will participate in a signing ceremony later this school year.
