Construction Begins on Petite-sized Strip Mall Off Cedar

Once complete, the retail development will include SmashBurger, Sport Clips, Which Wich, and Yogurt Lab.

A slender stretch of asphalt will soon be transformed into Apple Valley's newest retail development.

Oppidan Investment Company, a Minneapolis property development firm, has begun work on a 7,500-square foot retail development at 15350 Cedar Avenue. The site is on a strip of land spanning the north side of the Cub Foods parking lot. Likely tenants will include SmashBurger, Sport Clips, Which Wich, and Yogurt Lab.

Paul Tucci, vice president of development, said that the project has been in the works for about a year. However, due to uncertainty at Cub's parent company,  SUPERVALU, the company was unable to close the deal on the one-acre lot until three weeks ago.

Construction of the development will likely wrap up in September. The strip mall should be open for business before the end of the year.

Oppidan is well-known in the Twin Cities region. Since the company's inception in 1991, the firm has developed over 300 projects. This is the company's second retail development on the Cedar Avenue Corridor. Oppidan was also behind a retail center further north, which now include Buffalo Wild Wings, El Loro and Caribou Coffee.
