Eastview Girls Team Takes 9th at State Track and Field Meet

The Lightning made strides at the state track and field meet this week. The girls' team from Eastview cracked the top 10, coming in ninth overall.

According to Head Girls Cross County and Track & Field Coach Jorjean R. Fischer, there were several highlights for individual competitors as well:

  • Allie Funk cleared 11 feet 6 inches in the pole vault, making her a runner-up. The leap was a personal best for Funk.
  • Natalie Manders took fourth place and All-State honors in the discus. Manders is the first Eastview thrower to medal at state.
  • Melita Ware placed eighth in the 300 hurdles and fifth in the triple jump, earning double All-State honors in the process.
  • The relay team placed fifth in the 4 x 800 Relay, earning All-State honors. The team's time of 9:19 broke Eastview school records. The 4x8 team consisted of Cecelia Rivera, Laura Bestul, Hana Metoxen and Erica Bestul.

Eastview was in good company at this year's competition. The South Suburban Conference took six of the top 10 places in team points.
