Fireman Promoted, Fischer Readies for Night Moves: Council Notes

Here are a few tidbits from the last Apple Valley council meeting on Thursday. Please note, we will have more detailed coverage of the major items of business next week, so stay tuned.

• The council granted all the necessary licenses and permits to Fuhr Enterprises, Inc., which will open a new PDQ Food Store at 14265 Essex Avenue in early July.

• The council assented to the demands of residents along Upper 139th Street West, who have asked for parking restrictions to address concerns arising from Bus Rapid Transit Station. The council approved a measure to restrict parking on both sides of upper 139th Street between Glazier and Cedar from  6 a.m. to 10 a.m., Monday through Friday.

• Get ready to rumble. Fischer Sand & Gravel Mining Operations has been given the OK to truck aggregate during night-time hours. The council granted the company a temporary extension of hauling hours (which typically run from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.) to accommodate two large projects.

Fischer will be hauling aggregate from pit in Apple Valley to a concrete ready-mix plant in Burnsville, over the night of July 2. The company stated in its request that four trailers will be making 10 roundtrips each, between 8 p.m. and 3 a.m. that night. They will limit their traffic to County Road 42 and Cedar, however.

They were also given an extension for a longer period, from Aug. 5 to Aug. 15. The bulk of their activity will occur during  6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

• The intersection of 147th Street and Galaxie will become a flashing yellow during off-peak hours. The council granted a contract to revamp the intersection's signal to Killmer Electric Co. which came in with a quote of $17,750. All in all, the project will cost an estimated $58,600. Work will begin in August.

• The council agreed to a $106,713 contract with Sport Court MN (C & C Courts Inc.), a Burnsville company that will be tasked with the installation of  "modular tennis court surfaces" at Farquar and Delaney Parks.

• Charles Russell was promoted to Deputy Fire Chief/Training Officer, at an annual pay rate of $82,000.
