Retiring Apple Valley Commissioner Will Branning Honored with His Own Day

The Apple Valley City Council voted to make Jan. 8 "Will Branning Day" in a tribute to the longtime elected official.

Since 1969, Will Branning has been representing the residents of Apple Valley. And now, on the eve of his retirement, city officials are giving Branning his own day to honor his long service.

On Dec. 27, the Apple Valley City Council unanimously passed a resolution declaring Jan. 8, 2013, as "Will Branning Day" to coincide with Branning's retirement from the Dakota County Board of Commissioners.

Prior to his election to the Board of Commissioners in 1997, Branning, an Apple Valley resident, served as an elected official for the village of Apple Valley and the city of Apple Valley.

In part for his service as an elected official, and in part because of his contributions to the community, Branning's friends and colleagues know him as "Mr. Apple Valley".

In a resolution approved by the council in December, elected officials acknowledged his "instrumental role in thousands of decisions that cumulatively have made Apple Valley and Dakota County a great place to live, work and play."

Apple Valley city officials plan to present Branning with a proclamation during a retirement reception scheduled the evening of Jan. 8, 2013.
