School Board OKs Pay Raise for Superintendent of District 196

After a glowing performance review, Superintendent Jane K. Berenz was given a 2 percent pay increase and a few other benefits to sweeten the deal.

Members of the District 196 school board had nothing but praise for the Superintendent Jane K. Berenz during an annual performance review, and, better yet, they've decided to put their money where their mouth is.

On Monday, the board of the Eagan-Apple Valley-Rosemount district unanimously voted in a 2 percent pay raise, upped the ante on the district's contribution to Berenz' health plan, and added up to $500 of tuition reimbursement to her contract. The salary increase, effective July 1, will increase her annual pay from $192,000 to $195,840.

School Board Chair Rob Duchscher described Berenz' performance review on June 4 as "very positive."

"The board is very happy with the direction we are on," Duchscher said. "I want to personally thank her for another great year. She makes being on the board pretty easy."

This is the second raise for Berenz, who is not granted automatic pay raises, as per her contract. Any increase her in compensation must be granted by a board vote alone. In 2012, she received a 3.78 percent pay raise in 2012 after incurring a pay freeze for three years.
