Bowler's Blog: Spring Leagues, Week 2

Check out league scores and an Honor Board tournament recap from week 2 of the spring league session.

Week 2 of leagues started off with the Adult/Junior league on Tuesday night. Vic led all the adults for the second straight week, shooting 544. Other top scores came from Micheal with a 515, Kathy with 432, and Erik with 390. For the juniors, Adam once again claimed the top spot for the week with his 392 series. Steven hung around the top with a 320 series, while Jarrett came away with 236 and Erin had a 218.

9 pin no tap was back in action on Wednesday evening. Thomas led all the guys once again this week. His 665 didn't quite beat his series last week, but he made a run and still claimed the top spot. Jessica took the top spot this week for the ladies this week. Genna was absent this week so congrats to our new top bowler for the week. Jessica finished with a solid 596 series, just shy of a 200 average.

The Thursday singles league took the week off due to the Honor Board tournament. We had a total of 24 guys show up and 9 ladies so it was a pretty good turn out. Both groups would both bowl a 3 game qualifier. Ladies scores were handicapped based on 90% of 210 average while the guys bowled scratch. The top 16 guys would advance to a one on one bracket style tournament, while the top 3 ladies would go on to a step ladder final. Here were the final results for the qualifying round:

In the semifinals of the ladies match up, number three seed Julia took on number two seed Wendy. Julia didn't quite have her A game on and couldn't overcome Wendy's handicap, with the final score being 200-182. Wendy carried that momentum into the finals where she would take down the top seed Karen in a 241-201 route, giving her the title of the ladies tournament.

In the round of 16 for the guys, top seed Steve took down Sean in mighty fashion shooting 279-217. Danny took out Willie Jr in the 8-9 match-up, finishing 279-248. Dale was upset in the 5-12 match-up by Jason with the final being 238-226, and Jake took out Willie III in the 3-14 match up winning 277-168. On the other side of the bracket, the 2 seed Dustin beat Ryan with 268-224. Tony took out Rick in the 7-10 match with 279-214 in an upset. Jamie took Geoff out in the 6-11 match winning 207-182 and Kevin defeated Bruce in the 4-23 match with 257-201.

The quarterfinals started with Steve and Danny facing off where Steve would win a close one, edging out the nine seed with 234-232. Twelve seed Jason would continue his upset run by taking out three seed Jake in quarterfinal number 2, with a final score of 199-153. Tony would also keep the upsets coming as the ten seed knocked off the two seed, Dustin, in another close battle finishing 217-204. In the final match up, another close one would be had as Jamie up set Kevin in a 4-6 match up that ended up 247-243, another fight to the finish.

The semifinals would showcase top seed Steve and the upset special, twelve seed Jason, in semifinal number one. Jason held his own in the beginning of the match-up and lead 133-122 in the 6th frame. But it was all down hill from there, as Steve would rally off three strikes in a row and put Jason away after a big split winning 220-184. Semifinal number two was full of excitement after a slow start. Ten seed Tony lead the six seed Jamie after three frames, 59-47. Then, both bowlers went on a run. Tony had four strikes in a row to follow and a couple spares in the 7th and 8th frames. But Jamie, would not be beat as he struck the next eight in a row and took the victory. Tony struck out but it wouldn't be enough as he lost 256-234.

The final match came down the the top seeded Steve vs. the six seeded Jamie. It looked as though it would be quite a struggle to win this one with both bowlers coming in hot off their semifinal victories. Jamie had a hard time finding all ten pins and didn't strike until the 6th frame, while Steve was going to work hitting five out of the first six frames for strikes. The score was 135-94 at that point and didn't change much late in the game as Steve came out victorious, 222-182.

It was a great week for bowling here at Apple Place. Check back for week 3 news next week!
