A Site To See!

This time of year, there are plenty of Christmas lights to look at but the tree at Bob Little’s house in Bloomington is one you have to see!

This 100 year old, 53 foot Oak tree has some 40,300 lights wrapping the entire trunk and every branch. It can be seen from Highway 77 just south of the Mall of America as well as from miles away.  Every night some 200-800 people drive up to the home to get a close up look at this tree!

An ice storm in May 2008 wiped out 8,000 lights in 10 minutes, and it took $10,000 to fix. Each year, the lights on the first 12 feet of the tree are removed to make way for a summer garden and eliminate the wound wire on the trunk, which the squirrels use as a ladder. Most years, about 10 percent of the lights need to be replaced, costing about $2,500 each year to get the tree fully wrapped again.
