Holiday Travel

We are fast approaching the holidays, starting with Thanksgiving,  where so many people are traveling to be with family and friends. Thanksgiving is an especially busy travel time since it is a “quick” holiday. There are a few things you can do to make traveling easier.

·         The day before Thanksgiving is the busiest travel day of the year, the Sunday after is the second busiest. If possible avoid traveling on these days. Use an extra day or two of vacation to travel earlier or later, or consider traveling on Thanksgiving itself.

·         Don’t bring everything you own with you. Whether you are flying or driving, try to pack light. Less baggage makes for less stress, and if you desperately need something when you get to your destination, go out and by it.

·         The further ahead you can plan, the better if you are flying, taking a train, or a bus. Tickets tend to be less expensive further in advance and you will have more options.

·         Pets are not to be forgotten. If they are not traveling with you, make pet sitter or kennel arrangements ahead of time as these businesses are also full over holidays.

·         If you are driving, try to avoid congested highways. The more scenic route may not take that much longer with less traffic.

·         Remember, you are traveling for fun, so try to make it as easy on yourself as possible.
