Funeral Services Set for Lt. Col. Mark Weber of Rosemount

A funeral service has been set for Friday morning in Apple Valley, with visitation hours Thursday evening in Eagan.

The family of late Lt. Col. Mark Weber, Rosemout, has released funeral information for the man known as a "hero" to many, including four-star Gen. David Petraeus. 

According to the family's Caring Bridge site:

Funeral Service will be held on Friday, June 21, at 10 a.m. at Shepherd Of The Valley Lutheran Church, 12650 Johnny Cake Ridge Rd., Apple Valley.  A Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 20, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Easter Lutheran Church, 4545 Pilot Knob Rd., Eagan, as well as one hour prior to the service Friday morning.  Interment, Fort Snelling National Cemetery.  Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers.

Weber, the Rosemount soldier who gained national attention with his touching memoir for his three sons, lost his three-year battle with intestinal cancer last week. He was 38 years old.

Patch reported on Weber back in May, as the father and decorated soldier was making national news for his courage, and for his emotional messages to his boys.  

Lt. Col. Mark M. Weber was diagnosed with stage IV intestinal cancer in the summer of 2010, shortly after the Rosemount resident had just been picked by Gen. David Petraeus to serve as military advisor for the Afghan parliament.

The 38-year-old had climbed the military hierarchy in a more than 20-year career, earning decorations such as the Bronze Star and the Legion of Merit.

Weber applied his military mindset to his diagnosis, undergoing major surgery to remove most of his liver and devoting his time to the writing of a series of nine letters to his three sons about how to persevere in the face of adversity.
Weber's letters have recently been published as "Tell My Sons..."
