At least one person was seriously injured during a head-on collision involving alcohol on Hwy. 19 Thursday morning, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
Cody R. Franzoni, a 30-year-old Minneapolis resident, sustained significant injuries when the Ford Explorer he was driving swerved across the center line and collided with a 2007 Freightliner Tilt truck, state patrol officials said. The driver of the truck, 35-year-old Michael G. Stewart, of Rosemount, suffered minor injuries.
Police say the accident took place just after 6 a.m. Thursday on Hwy. 19 west of Northfield, near milepost 170. Stewarts' vehicle swerved to avoid Franzoni's SUV, but was unable to avert the collision, according to an accident report.
Emergency responders transported Franzoni to Hennepin County Medical Center following the collision. Franzoni had alcohol present in his system, and was not wearing a seatbelt, the state patrol said.
Northfield Police Department and Rice County Sheriff's Office units also responded to the collision.
