Apple Valley Man Arrested for Ecstasy Possession After Belligerence at Vikings Game

Minneapolis police found a pill on the person of Calvin John Ritz that allegedly was the drug Ecstasy.

An Apple Valley man is charged with drug possession after police say they found Ecstasy on him when escorting him from a Minnesota Vikings game for belligerent behavior.

Calvin John Ritz, 21, is charged in Hennepin County with fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance, a felony that yields a maximum five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. His first court hearing was Oct. 12, at which time he was held on $3,000 bond.

According to the criminal complaint, several attendees at the Oct. 9 Vikings/Arizona Cardinals game at Mall of America Field complained to security about Ritz's behavior.

A Minneapolis police officer found Ritz was "intoxicated, belligerent, using profanity and yelling at people seated near him," according to the complaint, so he tried to escort Ritz from the stadium.

Ritz tried to kick the officer and refused to leave the building, the complaint says.

When the officer searched Ritz to arrest him, he found a pill that allegedly tested as the drug Ecstasy.

Ritz pleaded guilty to fifth-degree drug possession and possession of a dangerous weapon in a 2010 case, and was also convicted of assaulting an officer in a different 2010 case, Minnesota court records show. He also has been convicted of underage drinking and DWI.

An omnibus hearing is scheduled for Ritz for 8:30 a.m. Nov. 15 in Hennepin County Court.
