Apple Valley Man Charged with Domestic Assault, Making Terroristic Threats

Kamaal Abdirahman Geele is accused of punching, slapping and choking his wife, then threatening to come back and shoot her "with eight bullets."

An Apple Valley man has been charged with two felonies after police say he repeatedly punched and slapped his wife, choked her and then threatened to come back and shoot her. She allegedly told police that Geele’s assaults have been a “very common occurrence” for years.

Kamaal Abdirahman Geele, 35, is charged with making terroristic threats, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine, and domestic assault by strangulation, which has a maximum penalty of three years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, the woman’s sister called Monday and reported that she had gone to her sister’s home after the assault earlier in the day. She said her sister didn't want to call police.

When Apple Valley police met with the woman, she was shaking, crying and upset, according to the complaint. She told police that she and Geele had recently moved to Apple Valley and are “considered married in their culture.”

The woman said she and Geele have four children in common who live with them, and that they have been living together as husband and wife for nine years.

The woman said she had arrived home earlier in the day and Geele had locked the front door and wouldn’t let her in, according to the complaint; she told police that Geele is “very controlling” and doesn’t approve of her leaving the house or having contact with anyone outside of their home.

She said she came in through the patio door to find Geele holding a knife, which he shook at her threateningly, according to the complaint. Geele dropped the knife and began to hit the woman with a closed fist and slap her in the face and neck, the complaint says.

Geele allegedly pulled the victim’s hair, then grabbed her by the throat and choked her to the point where she had trouble breathing, she told police. He pushed her to the ground and was on top of her when the woman’s adult daughter came out of the bedroom and yelled for him to stop, the complaint says.

Geele stood up and allegedly said, “Go ahead and call the police. I will come back and shoot you with eight bullets." Then he packed a few things and left.

Police arrested Geele on Tuesday; he allegedly declined to give a statement.

Geele is free on a $50,000 bond. He is scheduled to make an initial appearance on the charges Nov. 7 in Dakota County District Court in Hastings.
