Apple Valley Man Charged with Holding Gun to Woman's Head

Joshua Blain Nolting faces a felony charge of making terroristic threats and two misdemeanor charges of domestic assault.

An Apple Valley man has been charged with domestic assault and making terroristic threats after police say he held a gun to a woman’s temple and threatened her last weekend.

Joshua Blain Nolting, 28, faces a felony charge of making terroristic threats, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine, and two misdemeanor charges of domestic assault.

According to the criminal complaint, the victim told police that she had an argument with Nolting early Saturday after she texted a friend in Northfield, asking whether the friend’s uncle was still single.

The woman told police that Nolting read the text message, became upset and broke the phone, then began accusing her of cheating on him.

As she was preparing to leave her home and drive to Northfield, Nolting walked into the bedroom with a gun stuck in his waistband, according to the complaint.

The woman said she tried to walk out the door, and Nolting pulled the gun from his waistband and pulled back the slide with a clicking sound. He held the gun to her left temple, told her to get out of the house and that she would never see her two children again, according to the complaint.

The woman left and drove to Northfield, where she reported the incident to Northfield police.

Northfield police located Nolting driving in the area where the victim— who had headed back to Apple Valley—had been visiting her friend.

Police found what appeared to be a handgun in Nolting’s car, but determined that it was a replica airsoft pistol. During a subsequent search of Nolting’s home, police found a 9mm handgun, according to the complaint.
