Disc Golf Basket Thefts Lead to Felony Charge for Apple Valley Man

Jonathan Patrick Hennessy has been charged with felony theft for allegedly stealing the baskets from Alimagnet Park with a juvenile accomplice.

An Apple Valley man faces a felony charge after police say he and a juvenile allegedly stole disc golf baskets from the course at in the fall.

Jonathan Patrick Hennessy, 18, is charged with felony theft of items valued between $1,000 and $5,000. The maximum penalty is five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, received a report in October that six disc golf baskets had been taken from the Alimagnet course.

In lieu of the baskets' rediscovery, the Apple Valley Parks and Recreation Department replaced them at $350 each, or $2,100 total.

Police later received a tip that Hennessy and another juvenile had taken the baskets, the complaint says.

Hennessy allegedly told police when questioned that he used a pair of vice grips to clamp onto and remove the tamper-resistent screws, the complaint says.

A first appearance in Dakota County District Court is scheduled for June 11.
