Tyler David Karg, 19, is charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct, a felony with a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $30,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, the 14-year-old victim reported to Rosemount police last January that she had a relationship with Karg that began in October 2011, and that she had sex with him three times.

The first time was on homecoming night last October in a Rosemount park, the victim told officers. She said they had sex a second time several weeks later after the victim met Karg at his workplace in Farmington.

Last Oct. 28, the victim was cited for a curfew violation after police found her out with Karg. She said she and Karg had sex for the third time at her mother’s Rosemount home after the curfew violation.

After their third encounter, the victim had a “pregnancy scare” and went to a hospital with her mother, according to the complaint. The victim said Karg came with her to the hospital and that he was well aware of her age when they first began dating.

An investigator spoke to Karg at his home in February, and Karg admitted dating the victim and having sex with her, the complaint charges. Karg claimed that he thought the victim was 16. However, he admitted that he was present when she was cited with a curfew violation and that he knew her age at the time, according to the complaint.

Karg is scheduled to make a first appearance on the charge Oct. 29 in Dakota County District Court in Hastings.
