Gas Main Break on Cedar Stops Traffic Thursday Afternoon

Construction workers hit a four-inch gas main at 143rd and Cedar, prompting traffic to be stopped for about an hour and gas to be shut off for 21 homes.

A gas main break along Cedar Avenue in Apple Valley at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday resulted in two evacuations and northbound traffic on the road being stopped, but there were no injuries.

Construction workers his a four-inch gas main at 143rd Street West and Cedar Avenue, Chief Nealon Thompson said, prompting a three-alarm call.

Northbound traffic on Cedar was halted for about an hour during the incident, Thompson said. He said Centerpoint Energy shut off the line at about an hour after the call, leaving 21 homes without gas.

Thompson said there have been three gas main breaks in Apple Valley since Cedar construction began a little more than a year ago.
