Jury Trial Set for Former MMA Fighter Brett Rogers

A settlement conference is scheduled for Aug. 31, prior to the Sept. 13 trial date in Dakota County District Court.

A jury trial has been set for Mixed Martial Arts fighter Brett Rogers, for 8:30 a.m. Sept. 13 in Dakota County District Court.

Court records show a settlement conference in the assault case against him also has been scheduled prior to to the trial date, for Aug. 31; it's possible the state and Rogers could reach a settlement agreement prior to the jury trial date.

Rogers third-degree assault, domestic assault by strangulation, following a pattern of stalking conduct—all felonies—and one gross misdemeanor count of endangerment of a child, after police say he in late June.

Dakota County District Court Judge Rex D. Stacey at a Monday hearing set Rogers' bond at $100,000; other orders for Rogers' conditional release included not entering the alleged victim's house and to have no contact with her, to not have any firearms or other weapons and to attend counseling, court records show.

Rogers' attorney, Murad M. Mohammad with MJM Legal in Woodbury, issued a press release on July 11, which said Rogers never has been charged with domestic incidents or assaults before.

"Mr. Rogers asserts his innocence in this matter, and is confident that the facts of what happened will vindicate his assertion of innocence," the press release said.

An article on mmafighting.com reported that Rogers' contract with Strikeforce Mixed Martial Arts was terminated shortly after the charges were filed.

Rogers, an "EliteXC and Strikeforce veteran," according to his profile on mmafighting.com, was "considered by many to be a Top 10 heavyweight fighter."
