Hearing Delayed for Predatory Offender Who Claimed to Live in Apple Valley

Authorities issued a nationwide arrest warrant for Sean Charles Fikes, 35, after he could not be located at his listed Apple Valley address.

A Dakota County District Court Judge on Tuesday delayed the pretrial hearing for a Lakeville man charged with failing to register as a predatory offender for almost a year.

The omnibus hearing for Sean Charles Fikes, 35, is pushed back to Jan. 25, and a jury trial is scheduled for Feb. 13 if necessary.

According to the criminal complaint, Fikes, who was convicted of third-degree criminal sexual conduct in June 1997, submitted a change of address form to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension on July 7, 2010.

The form stated that his new address would have been in the 16000 block of Foliage Avenue in Apple Valley.

By May 2011, Fikes still had not been found, all mail was returned and his last known phone number was out of service.

Because of Fikes' 1997 conviction, he was required to register his residence for 10 years. But since he was jailed for several separate offenses through 2009, he's required to register for 10 more years after the release date of his most recent incarceration—so, until March 12, 2019.

Fikes remains in Dakota County Jail. He spent much of Monday working on a plea agreement with Dakota County prosecutors and public defender Andrea Anderson.

If convicted of the failing-to-register charge, Fikes faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
