UPDATE: Lightning Strike Causes House Fire Early Tuesday in Apple Valley

The home's three occupants got out safely after the siding caught fire due to lightning.

An Apple Valley house caught fire early Tuesday after an apparent lightning strike. Three people got out of the home safely and uninjured.

were called to a home in the 14600 block of Dominica Court—near —at 4:18 a.m. Tuesday, Apple Valley Fire Chief Nealon Thompson said.

The homeowner awoke after hearing the lightning hit and smelled smoke, and went outside to see the exterior of the house on fire, Thompson said.

The fire was confined to the exterior siding of the house, and the damage is relatively minor, Thompson said. The occupants can still remain inside, but their gas service was shut off because the gas meter was involved with the lightning strike, he said.

Lightning also in June in Apple Valley, apparently hitting a gas meter that caused the current to travel to a neighboring home.
