UPDATE: Man Arrested for Attempted Apple Valley Rape

Gilbert Edward Gage of Rosemount was arrested Tuesday evening in Zumbrota.

Authorities have arrested a after an incident last spring in which police say he threatened to rape a woman in the parking lot of an Apple Valley bar. 

Gilbert Edward Gage, 49, was arrested Tuesday evening in Zumbrota. He remained in the Dakota County Jail on Wednesday and was scheduled to make a first appearance on the charge. 

Gage is charged with fourth-degree attempted criminal sexual conduct, which carries a maximum penalty of two and a half years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, Gage argued with the alleged victim at the bar in early April after she refused to move out of state with him.

The woman told police that Gage asked her to drive him home, but once he was in her car, he jumped on her and threatened to rape her, telling her that she was worth going to jail for if he could have her one more time, according to the complaint.

Gage’s criminal history includes a 1989 conviction for first-degree criminal sexual conduct and burglary in Olmsted County. He was sentenced to more than 18 years in prison.
