Minneapolis Man in Court After Allegedly Burning Ex-Girlfriend's Face with Cigarettes

Given his lengthy criminal history, if convicted of the charges against him, Ryan Wayne Lewis, 33, faces up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

A Minneapolis man charged with felony third-degree assault and felony domestic assault following a June 1 incident in Rosemount made his first appearance in Dakota County court on Dec. 6.

According to a Dakota County criminal complaint filed on Sept. 8:

A statewide arrest warrant was issued for Ryan Wayne Lewis, 33, on Sept. 8 for his role in an alleged incident in which he used cigarettes to burn his ex-girlfriend's face and gave her a drug that "knocked her out."

According to the criminal complaint, while investigating the alleged assault Rosemount police learned Lewis had an active warrant for felony domestic assault by strangulation.

A review of Lewis' criminal history revealed Lewis was released from the Minnesota Correctional Facility at Lino Lakes on Mar. 16, the complaint states.

Lewis' criminal record also indicated felony convictions for the following crimes: 

  • Receiving stolen property (1998)
  • Fifth-degree controlled substance (1998)
  • Domestic assault (1999)
  • Second-degree controlled substance (2000)
  • Fifth-degree controlled substance (2006)
  • Domestic assault by strangulation (2007)
  • Third-degree controlled substance (2007)

Lewis is scheduled to appear in court for an omnibus hearing on Jan. 3, 2012.

If convicted of the charges against him, Lewis faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
