Police: Rosemount Man Beat 13-Year-Old With Boxing Gloves

A Rosemount man is accused of throwing a 13-year-old child against a wall, then hitting the boy with boxing gloves in order to teach the child a lesson about "being a man."

Aubiedee Che Spearman, 37, faces one gross misdemeanor count of malicious punishment of a child, according to a criminal complaint filed by the Dakota County Attorney's Office. If convicted, Spearman could face a maximum of one year in jail and as much as $3,000 in fines.

At 8:55 a.m. on May 22, Lakeville police were dispatched to a gas station, according to the complaint. At the station, police found the 13-year-old, who had scratches on his chest and neck, was holding ice to his left shoulder and had dark red marks on both arms between the shoulder and elbow. The boy was visibly upset and had been crying, according to police.

Police interviewed the boy, who told officers that Spearman became upset over the clothing the child was planning to wear to school that day. The boy told police Spearman forced him to change clothes, then drove him to school, where Spearman cleaned out the boy's locker.

After returning home, police say Spearman threw the boy against a wall, causing damage to the wall, then strapped on boxing gloves and began hitting the child. The boy told police Spearman hit him more than 20 times over a span of 20 minutes while wearing the gloves. During the confrontation, the boy managed to escape and run to a nearby gas station.

Police drove to Spearman's home and found the man standing the driveway with sparring gloves in his hands.

Spearman allegedly told officers he'd been having trouble dealing with the child's behavior and was trying to teach the boy about "being a man."

At one point during questioning, Spearman allegedly told police his own uncle once taught him a similar lesson, and now he was just trying to do the same with the child.
