Dakota County deputies arrested one man following the alleged shooting incident, which occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday afternoon. No one was injured.

Editor's Note: The following is a press release from the Dakota County Sheriff's Office.

At approximately 2:37 p.m. today, Dakota County Sheriffs Deputies were summoned to Spring Lake Park on a report of shots fired at a duck hunter. The caller indicated that a hunter was confronted angrily by another hunting party as he was placing his decoys in the water. Words were exchanged and eventually the argument grew heated, culminating with one party shooting a shotgun at the party in the water placing the decoys. The victim and a witness report pellets striking the side of the victim’s boat. No one was struck by the pellets.

Dakota County Deputies, together with State Troopers and Conservation Officers from the Department of Natural Resources, immediately began a search for the suspect(s). At approximately 3:45 p.m., a suspect was apprehended on an island near where the original assault occurred. The suspect was positively identified by the victim and witness and brought to the Dakota County Jail for
processing on charges of Felony Assault. The investigation will be completed by the Sheriff’s Office and the case submitted to the Dakota County Attorney’s Office for charging considerations.
