Rosemount Man Charged with Assaulting Juvenile Nephew

Dontele Lapriest Addison is charged with malicious punishment of a child and fifth-degree assault as result of the Sept. 7 incident.

A 42-year-old Rosemount man has been charged with assaulting his juvenile nephew after accusing him of stealing money.

Dontele Lapriest Addison was charged with malicious punishment of a child, a gross misdemeanor; and fifth-degree assault, a misdemeanor.

According to the Dakota County criminal complaint:

At about 10:15 p.m. Sept. 7, Lakeville Police responded to a report of an assault in the 6500 block of 168th Street. The caller reportedly told the dispatcher he had been assaulted by his uncle.

The homeowner told police her brother, Addison, and her nephew—both living in the home at the time—had a fight over missing money.

Police then spoke to the boy, who said Addison had returned from a hunting trip and discovered money that he had hidden in the basement was missing. Addison allegedly went upstairs and found the boy in the kitchen.

Addison reportedly asked the boy if he had stolen the money. After the boy denied it, Addison allegedly grabbed the boy by the throat, shoved him against the wall and put him in a headlock. The boy got out of the headlock and threw punches at his uncle. Addison allegedly punched the boy in the head with a closed fist, then left the home.

The boy reportedly suffered a swollen left eye, scratches and a possible broken nose. Paramedics who responded to the scene recommended the boy have his nose x-rayed.

Police contacted Allison by phone. He allegedly admitted he had fought with the juvenile after the boy denied taking the money.

The malicious punishment of a child charges carries a penalty of up to one year in jail and up to a $3,000 fine. The assault charge is punishable of up to 90 days in jail and up to a $1,000 fine.
