Rosemount Man Sentenced to 3 Days for Head-butting EMT

Alexander Michael Briner, 24, was ordered to begin his sentence for the March 2012 assault on Friday.

A Rosemount man is currently serving a stint in the county jail for head-butting a paramedic.

Alexander Michael Briner, 24, was convicted of fourth-degree felony assault on Feb. 20, 2013, a little less than a year after the incident itself.

On March 10, 2012 officers from the Rosemount PD were dispatched to a location on 160th Street in Rosemount on report of a "male who was out of control." That male was Briner.

Upon arrival, officers learned from two witnesses that Briner had been drinking all night. The two witnesses were physically restraining him as Briner yelled, screamed and threatened to fight everyone in the room. Officers attempted to talk to Briner, but he started to kick and had to be further restrained to prevent combative behavior.

Once paramedics were called in to assess him, he seemed more cooperative, though officers continued to restrain his feet. While one of the EMTs was tending to him Briner suddenly swung his head forward, "head-butting" the paramedic hard enough to leave a red mark. He was eventually subdued and taken to Regions Hospital.

On Feb. 20, Judge Tim McManus sentenced Briner to three days in jail, 20 hours of community service, a $300 fine and two years and one day of probation. He was also ordered to pay restitution, submit to a chemical dependency evaluation, and attend AA weekly, among other things. Successful completion of Briner's probation will lower the conviction from a felony offense to a misdemeanor.
