Police say Jancy Yanire Lalime almost hit a squad car in Rosemount, then told an officer that she had been drinking beer to get rid of a hangover.

A Rosemount woman has been charged with felony drunken driving after police say she almost hit a squad car, then explained to an officer that she had been drinking beer to get rid of a hangover.

Jancy Yanire Lalime, 32, is charged with two felony counts of first-degree DWI, each of which carries a maximum penalty of seven years in prison and a $14,000 fine and a mandatory minimum penalty of three years in prison and a $4,200 fine.

She is also charged with fifth-degree drug possession, which has a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine; violation of a restricted driver’s license, a gross misdemeanor with a maximum penalty of a year in jail and a $3,000 fine; and failure to produce proof of insurance, a misdemeanor with a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, a Rosemount police officer was on patrol eastbound on 145th Street West at the intersection of Cameo Avenue just after 10:30 a.m. Oct. 15 when a car rolled through a stop sign and pulled in front of him, almost hitting the squad car.

The officer followed the car and made a traffic stop. The driver was identified as Lalime, who told the officer that she didn’t know why she had been stopped.

Lalime was unable to provide proof of insurance for her car, and the officer smelled a strong odor of alcohol while he spoke to her, according to the complaint.

Lalime failed several field sobriety tests, including being unable to count backward from 72 to 56, the complaint says. Her blood-alcohol level was over the legal limit of .08 percent, and she was arrested.

At the police station, Lalime asked to speak to an attorney. After that conversation, she told police that she wouldn’t submit to a blood test because her attorney advised her against it.

Lalime told police that she had been returning home after being at her son’s school, and admitted that she had been drinking, according to the complaint. She told police that she was drinking beer to get rid of a hangover, the complaint charges.

A search of Lalime’s car turned up four empty beer cans and Lalime’s purse, which contained a small red straw with a white powdery substance on both ends. The substance tested positive for cocaine.

Lalime’s criminal history includes three previous DWI convictions, in 2004, 2006 and 2007.

Lalime has been released from custody on her promise to make all future court appearances, and has been ordered to abstain from alcohol and drugs. An omnibus hearing in her case is scheduled Nov. 13 in Dakota County District Court in Hastings.
