Sign Up for Citizens Police Academy in Apple Valley

Limited spaces are available for this year's spring academy.

Registration is now open for this spring's free Citizens Police Academy through the Apple Valley Police Department.

The eight-week academy, which will meet Tuesday evenings in April and May, lets participants look inside the operations of the Apple Valley Police Department. Topics that will be covered include but are not limited to:

  • routine traffic stops
  • the Dakota County Drug Task Force
  • school resource officers
  • use of force issues
  • DUI enforcement
  • the Mutual Aid Assistance Group (SWAT team)
  • the judicial process
  • crime scene investigations
  • K-9

It's open to people 18 or older who live or work in Apple Valley and have not attended an academy in the past five years.

Criminal background checks will be conducted on all applicants, according to a press release.

Registration is online only; you can register here until March 23.
