UPDATE: Cause Determined in Wednesday House Fire in Apple Valley

The cause of the fire on Hallmark Drive on Wednesday, July 11, was accidental, according to Apple Valley fire officials.

The cause of the house fire on Hallmark Drive in Apple Valley last Wednesday (July 11) was the improper disposal of smoking materials, according to the Apple Valley Fire Department.

Fire Marshal Roy Kingsley said there were leaves under the home's deck that caught fire because of the materials weren't put out and disposed of correctly.

It took 32 about 40 minutes to control the house fire in the 14700 block of Hallmark Drive.

The home's occupants made it out safely and uninjured, Apple Valley Fire Chief Nealon Thompson said, but the fire consumed a "significant portion" of the home.

The fire broke out just before 5:45 p.m. Wednesday and rose to three alarms. The Apple Valley police officer who first arrived on the scene reported seeing flames and smoke visible from outside the house.
