5 File for 2 Seats on Apple Valley City Council

Candidates on the November general election ballot will include incumbents Tom Goodwin and Ruth Grendahl, and newcomers Michael Holsten, Wilma Ruppert and Nicholas Stepka.

Three people have filed candidacy for two City Council seats up for election this November, according to Minnesota Secretary of State filing records.

Those who filed include incumbents Tom Goodwin and Ruth Grendahl, and newcomers Michael Holsten, Wilma Ruppert and Nicholas Stepka.

Goodwin has served on the council since 1984, Grendahl since 1997. Ruppert has previously served on Dakota County's Human Services Advisory Committee.

The filing period was open from July 31 through Aug. 14. Candidates have until 5 p.m. Aug. 16 to withdraw, or they will appear on the Nov. 6 general election ballot.

Whichever two people are elected in November each will serve a four-year term beginning Jan. 7. They will join council members John Bergman and Clint Hooppaw, and Mayor Mary Hamann-Roland.
