Apple Valley City Council: Additional News and Notes

In addition to approving $5,000 for a schematic drawing for a new Valleywood Golf Course clubhouse at its Thursday meeting, the Apple Valley City Council:

• Declared April 10-16 of this year "volunteer recognition week" in Apple Valley. The council presented awards to Traffic Safety Advisory Committee members Linda Dolan, Harald Ericksen, Arthur Zimmerman and Charles Grawe for each serving 10 years on the committee, and to head election judges who have served the city for 10 or more elections: Camille Burin, 14 elections; Ronald Burke, 15 elections; Darlene Lemke, 14 elections; Cynthia McDonald, 16 elections; Tracy O'Brian, 10 elections; Linda Paseka, 10 elections.
• Approved an interim-use permit for Home Depot to create a temporary outdoor sales area in part of its parking lot, to sell trees, shrubs and soil through June 15.
• Amended the late-night parking ordinance to allow construction machinery for city construction or maintenance projects to be parked on city streets between 3 and 6 a.m., when street parking is otherwise prohibited. Director of Public Works Todd Blomstrom said it's more expensive to haul equipment back to a facility each night and bring it back the next morning than it would be to leave the equipment on-site overnight.
• Amended the ordinance regulating snow on city streets to prohibit people from putting snow from shoveling or plowing snow from private property and putting it on city streets or sidewalks. The change is meant to prevent large deposits of snow from snowplows removing snow from commercial driveways and parking lots, Blomstrom said. The property owner would be notified and given 12 hours to remove the snow, otherwise the city would remove the snow and bill the property owner.
