City of Rosemount Lifts Tattoo Business Restriction in Favor of State Law

The repeal of the city ordinance makes way for an overall state

On Tuesday, the Rosemount City Council voted to repeal a city ordinance which covers the licensing of tattoo parlors and businesses that perform body piercings.

The city had recently received an application for a tattoo and body piercing business and after a discussion with the Minnesota Dept. of Health, city officials determined the current city ordinance conflicted with a recently passed state bill.

Repealing the city ordinance allows the state law to be enforced. That law, which went into effect on Jan. 1, requires body art technicians to be licensed.
