Dakota County Updates City on Robert Street Transitway

A presentation was given by representatives from the Dakota County Transportation Department and a conversation with representatives from SKB Development topped the evening's agenda.

City Council members received a transportation update, including information on the Robert Street Transitway Alternatives Analysis Study by Dakota County engineers Wednesday.

The Alternatives Analysis takes over where the recently completed feasibility study left off and will study a number of transit options along the corridor. Eventually, those alternatives will be pared down to a few "locally preferred" options that will be studied from a number of angles and factors that will best serve the mixed transit needs of the area, according to Mark Kresbach, Dakota County transportation director and county engineer, and Brian Sorenson, assistant county engineer.

At the end of the estimated 20-month long process, the county hopes to have the selected options approved by the impacted communities, including Rosemount, and the plans presented to the Metropolitan Council for their consideration.

Kresbach also shared with the council preliminary plans to improve the intersection of Highway 52 and County Road 42 which, among other hazards, has very poor sight lines and lacks left turn lanes. However, he said any changes to the intersection are at least five years away.
